Wed 31st May – Brockwell Park

The Brixton Project

In the first public spectacle of its kind, Procession brings together diverse communities
on the 22 June 2023 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Windrush.

Procession will travel along Railton Road, a key artery through Brixton and historic space
for Black communities, in a shared celebration which cements the histories,
experiences, and voices of the Windrush generation in the fabric of British heritage.

Built by community with the support of local artists, Procession harnesses the
traditional spirit of carnival with art, theatre, and music telling the Windrush story
through connected themes: Ancestry, Island Life, Building Britain, Carnival, and Future.

The Brixton Project invites you to join us at Brockwell Bounce for a workshop led by local
carnival collective Sunshine International Arts to create costumes, props, and puppets
for Procession’s performers.

We will be taking Procession for a rehearsal run at Brockwell Bounce at 4:30pm if you
would like to join us with your creations!
